About the Home Studio Pack

Calm, confidence and connection through making

A gentle creative resource for calm, confidence and connection through screen-free making.

The Home Studio Pack is a collection of simple, open-ended creative invitations designed for home. They help children slow down, explore materials, build creative confidence and enjoy the process of making, without worrying about the end result.

It isn’t a disposable activity book. It’s a resource you can come back to as your child grows: view it on a screen, print the pages that help and use the invitations again and again.

What makes it feel different?

The invitations are simple, calm and flexible. They are designed to help you notice more, say less and let the process matter. Each one is easy to pick up and adapt for your child.

Our approach

The CALM approach

Every invitation is built around CALM: a kinder, more positive way to be creative together. It’s what makes Home Studio different from a page of activities.

C

Create

An invitation to notice and make, starting with something simple and close to home.

A

Allow

Allow your child to follow the shapes, ideas and materials that interest them.

L

Look

Look closely together, at light, colour, texture and the world around you.

M

Make

Make the process more important than the outcome. There’s no “right” result.

Chase the Shadows

Light, shape and storytelling · 10–20 mins · 2 mins prep · low mess

Let’s look for shadows before we start making. Notice the shapes, edges and spaces they create. There is no need to copy them perfectly. This invitation is about noticing, playing and turning what you see into marks, shapes and ideas.

Try saying

  • “What do you notice in the shadow?”
  • “What happens if we move the object?”
  • “Can you turn that shadow into something imaginary?”

Hannah’s starting point: “I’d choose something simple to begin with, perhaps a toy animal, a plant or just our hands near the window.”

Grow it with them

A resource that grows with your child

The pack works especially well from around 18 months to 2 years upward, and stays relevant for older children too. Every invitation includes ideas for different ages and stages, so you can use it with one child or many.

Little makers

Around 18 months to 2 years: noticing, scribbling, tapping and simply enjoying what happens.

Growing makers

Primary age: tracing, filling shapes with lines and patterns, and turning ideas into creatures and stories.

Older makers

12+: experimenting, layering, changing viewpoints and building more sustained artwork.

Teacher and parent

Hello, I’m Hannah

I’m a primary teacher, an art subject leader and a parent. I’ve taught since 2014, and in 2019 I founded The Primary Art Network to help art leads in schools across the UK plan and lead brilliant art.

Home Studio brings what I know from the classroom to your home. The invitations are the kind of thing I do with my own family: simple, calm and focused on curiosity rather than getting it “right”.

Why I made this

So that making art together feels like a little moment of calm in a busy week, not another thing to get right.

A note on AI

Home Studio is created by me, Hannah, with the help of AI tools. I use ChatGPT and Claude to help create the illustrations, draft and edit the written invitations, and design the layout of the pack. I also use them to help write some of the words on this website.

I review, edit and approve everything before it’s shared, and I take responsibility for what’s in the pack. If you have any questions about how Home Studio is made, please get in touch.
