Primary Art Subject Leader CPD and Networking

The Primary Art Network provides online primary art subject leader CPD and networking for schools across the UK. Our half termly sessions help art leads develop confidence in curriculum planning, progression, assessment, sketchbook use and whole-school art provision.

Online CPD for primary art leads

Sessions run live on Zoom once a half term, after school, so they fit around a teaching week. Each one is practical: a short hands-on art activity, a focus on one part of the role, and time to discuss how other schools approach it.

Support for new and experienced art subject leaders

Whether you’re new to the role, an experienced art lead, or a primary art coordinator picking up the subject alongside others, the sessions meet you where you are. New leads get a clear sense of what the role involves. Experienced leads get fresh ideas and a sounding board.

What the CPD covers

Topics change each year and follow what members need. They include:

Art and design curriculum planning and progression

Art assessment in primary schools

Sketchbook use across KS1 and KS2

Substantive and disciplinary knowledge in art

Building staff confidence with non-specialist teachers

Subject audits, monitoring and preparing for deep dives

Raising the profile of art across the school

Sessions are informed by the National Curriculum for art and design, and reference design and guidance from NSEAD and AccessArt, which we recognise as high-quality providers of art education. The Primary Art Network is independent and is not affiliated with either organisation.

Yes. Many members join in their first year in the role. Sessions are friendly and practical, and there’s no expectation that you’re an art specialist.

Are the sessions online?

Yes, all sessions run live on Zoom, so schools anywhere in the UK can join.

How much does membership cost?

£90 per school for the full academic year, covering all six half-termly sessions.

Can more than one teacher from a school attend?

Yes.

Can schools join as part of a cluster or trust?

Yes. Get in touch to discuss membership for a group of schools.

What if we join partway through the year?

New members are always welcome, please just email to ask about late joiner memberships.
